Summer time on the island...
Gulf water temp. 88 degrees. The best spot for a spectacular sunset?
Sitting in the powder soft sand on any of our beautiful beaches.
Then a late dinner of fresh seafood at one of the islands delectable restaurants, and relaxing sleep like you can only get on an island at one of our charming resorts...ahhhh, summer.

Gulf Coast Update
We know you are worried about the oil spill and we are too, but we are delighted to report to you that our beautiful beaches and turquoise water have NOT been affected in any way by the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico.
The beach is gorgeous and clean, as always. The water is lovely and warm. The sun is shining. And our Beach Resorts are open for your complete enjoyment.

The Anna Maria Island Chamber of Commerce is putting our finishing touches on our 1st Annual Real Florida Festival scheduled for April 16,17 and 18th 2010. This is a 3 day, 3 city fun packed event with may activities to choose from. An all-island celebration of our rich folk heritage and the relaxed way of life we’re famous for. This is a place that really knows how to have a good time! The proceeds from the Real Florida Festival will go toward supporting our much-needed and highly valued community service programs, which includes saving our famous Anna Maria Island Trolleys and keep them free charge. 20th Annual Robert E. Hunt Beautification Award
DAVID TEITELBAUM, OWNER of the Tortuga Inn Beach Resort on Anna Maria Island, has won the 20th Annual Robert E. Hunt Beautification Award.
The award, given by the Manatee Chamber of Commerce and named after former Palmetto Mayor Robert E. Hunt, is given to the person who best contributes to the beauty and appeal of the island.

I was browsing the web today looking for reviews about islands in the United States, Florida in particular.
I came across this great article about Anna maria Island written in Smarter Travel in 2007. Although written a few years ago, everything about the island is still true. Some things never change!!
The hidden beach destination Floridians escape to, Anna Maria Island has somehow managed to keep condo towers, all-fast-food chains, amusement parks, and glitzy mega-resorts off its shores. In fact, no construction on the this seven-mile long barrier island on Florida's Gulf Coast is more than three stories tall, Subway is the only franchise, and 60 percent of its land is open beach. And, it's affordable, especially in the summer. You can rent vacation homes with water views and pools for well under $1,000 per week and get seafood entrees at beachfront restaurants for under $15.
While doing nothing is the island's prime pastime, there are plenty of options when you want something to do. You can snorkel, kayak, or fish in the Gulf's clear waters, or explore the island's three small communities, Bradenton Beach, Holmes Beach, and the town of Anna Maria. A free trolley runs up and down the length of the island, making it easy to check out the island's boutique shops or restaurants. For dining, you can try affordable local favorites such as the Cafe on the Beach, which is known for its all-you-can-eat pancakes for $4.25, and Star Fish Company, whose dockside restaurant serves the local catch with sides from $7 to $15 per meal.
Where to stay: Most accommodations on Anna Maria are vacation rentals or small condo resorts. Vacation Rentals by Owner has pages of Anna Maria Island rentals, some priced as low as $500 per week. A number of rental brokers can also set you up with a vacation house. If you'd prefer to stay at a condo resort, two of the most well-know properties are the Tradewinds Resort and Tortuga Inn Beach Resort.
